In such cases, pregnancy is effected via artificial insemination when both partners, or only the woman, is HIV-positive. When only the man is HIV-positive, we have the facilities to wash the HIV from the seminal fluid, which normally contains cells that carry the virus. The sperm is then retested for any remaining virus, and if it is HIV-negative, the woman can then be inseminated.
